Parent Volunteers
Describing the volunteer requirement for swim meets and spirit jobs.
About Swim Meets
Being part of the swim team is exciting and rewarding for kids and parents alike. Many of our swimmers remain part of the team for more than 10 years. This could not happen without the dedication of our families, coaches and swimmers. Swim leagues are inherently in need of more parent volunteers than many other sports. But it is also true that in no other sport will your child get as many hours of training and instruction from a skilled staff of coaches at such a bargain rate. In the swim meets, kids get a chance not only to compete against other swimmers but to set and exceed personal performance goals.
Marlin Family Work Commitment
To run each home swim meet, it takes 70 volunteers (35 each half), and to run to run an away meet, it takes 46 volunteers (23 each half). Thus, being on swim team is a family commitment. There are two types of jobs: Swim Meet Jobs and Team Spirit Jobs.
One parent is required to work a swim meet job for every meet in which a child participates, working either the first or second half of the swim meet for each swimmer. If you have 2 or more swimmers, you must work both halves. A parent, grandparent, older sibling, or responsible babysitter may fulfill this commitment. Please advise the Volunteer Coordinator if you choose to do this. Also, one parent or other responsible family member must work one of the many Team Spirit jobs that occur throughout the season. Those jobs are listed further down the page. Sign up for these jobs at registration in April. No swim meet or team spirit job can be reserved in advance of registration day. However, if you would like to take a lead position, please contact the Pool Manager—your help would be very gladly received! If you are unable to do your Swim Meet or Team Spirit Job, PLEASE:
by calling the Meet Extras until you find a replacement, and,
let the Volunteer Coordinator for the meet know who your replacement is.
