Swim Lessons

posted on July 01, 2008 05:31 PM by Lisette Narragon
Board verifies policy not to allow swim instructors to use the pool who are not GMCA employees.

There are several reason why external swim instructors are not allowed to teach at GMCA's pool:

  1. We offer this service to our members for a reasonable price and it provides a good source of income for GMCA.
  2. The external swim instructors would not necessarily know the pool rules, we have no control over the quality of instruction, and they won't be aware of the priorities of pool usage, nor would they be covered by our liability insurance.
  3. The pool is crowded enough between recreational swim, existing swim lessons, swim team and lap swim. We don't have the ability to schedule these other swim instructors which could impact usage of the pool.
  4. GMCA swim instructors turn over part of their salary to GMCA to cover the costs of maintenance of the pool. External instructors who use our pool to teach lessons and charge for them are essentially using the pool for free.

If there are any questions about this policy, please refer to a board member. The lifeguards are there to enforce the policies, they do not make them. Thank you.
