Young pool guests require swim test

posted on July 01, 2008 07:04 PM by Lisette Narragon
Recent incidents at the pool have shown that members bringing non-swimmer guests to the pool are not ensuring they follow the safety rules.

So far this year, three young swimmers have gotten into trouble in the pool simply because they ventured too far towards the blue line and could not swim to the side. Our goal at GMCA is that a lifeguard would NEVER have to pull a child or adult out of the pool. The guards are not there as the first line of supervision, this is the job of the parent or caregiver, and in the case of guests, this is the job of the member. In some cases it took quite a while for the member to be located, a sure sign that the children were not being watched closely.

We strongly encourage members bringing young guests who do not pass the swim test, to be in the water with them and your children.
