World class cycling race coming to Palo Alto!

posted on January 10, 2008 12:59 PM by Philippe Alexis

The 2008 Amgen Tour of California, an eight-day cycling event like the Tour de France, is coming to Palo Alto on Sunday, February 17.

Come out and join the excitement of a professional cycling competition in our own community. See the cyclists up close as they kick-off America's most important and biggest race of the year.

The riders will take to the streets at 1:00 PM as they compete in a challenging individual time-trial of about two miles on University Avenue and Palm Drive.

The Palo Alto-Stanford University Prologue will be a fast, grueling and demanding time trial, guaranteed to be an exciting, once in a lifetime experience for everyone.

Pre-race events include a bicycle art competition, interviews and autographs with the athletes. On Saturday, February 16, there will be a community bike ride from Mitchell Park to downtown Palo Alto starting at 10:00 AM. Special race-day events include entertainment, fitness and children's activities.

Join the City of Palo Alto, Stanford University and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in welcoming the athletes, enjoying pre-event festivities and attending this exciting race!
